Art and Design

INTENT

At St Saviour’s, the intent of our Art curriculum is to provide a high-quality education that is inclusive of all pupils, and enables them to develop their creativity through a range of artistic skills. We aim to inspire children to experiment with different materials, to encourage them to express their ideas with confidence, to develop an understanding of art movements and styles, and to challenge themselves to continually improve their artistic abilities.

IMPLEMENTATION

To meet our intent statement, our Art curriculum is implemented through a range of experiences that allow pupils to develop their skills and knowledge across the full range of Art and Design. We encourage diversity within our Art curriculum by drawing upon a range of cultures and heritages, exploring a variety of techniques and materials, and weaving in connections with other areas of the curriculum whenever possible.

Implementation also includes enabling pupils to explore and investigate art through field trips to museums and galleries; inviting artists into the classroom to talk about their work; showcasing student artwork within the school; and nurturing a culture that values originality, curiosity, and experimentation.

IMPACT

Our Art curriculum delivers impactful outcomes that enable pupils to make meaningful connections across a broad range of the curriculum. The curriculum allows pupils to develop their creativity, curiosity and self-confidence, encourages exploration and risk-taking and supports students to refine their artistic skills to a high level.

Our wide-ranging curriculum enhances pupil's personal development, well-being and ultimately raises academic achievement levels across the wider curriculum as well. Pupils leave our school with an appreciation and enthusiasm towards Art that they can carry into their future lives beyond education.

Overall, our intent, implementation and impact strategy ensure that our Art curriculum is of the highest quality and is an effective way to build a rich and emotional experience for all of our pupils.
