Geography

INTENT

Our intent for the teaching of Geography at St Saviour’s RC Primary School is to provide a curriculum that is exciting, engaging and enriching, which allows our pupils to develop a deep understanding of the world's physical and human processes. We aim to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world, its peoples, and their cultures that remains with our pupils for the rest of their lives.

IMPLEMENTATION

To achieve our intent, we will deliver a high-quality Geography curriculum that reflects the National Curriculum requirements and the local context of our school. We will use a range of resources, including maps, globes, atlases, ICT and fieldwork opportunities to enhance our classroom-based teaching and learning. Our pupils will be encouraged to make connections between the knowledge and skills they have learned in their Geography lessons and the wider curriculum. We will also promote the use of Geographical language, such as key location names, technical vocabulary, and comparisons to locations across the world.

IMPACT

The impact of our teaching will be that our pupils will develop a deep understanding of physical and human geography and the interrelationships between them. They will develop a range of geographical skills, including the ability to interpret maps, understand key concepts and make informed decisions. Our pupils will leave our school with a fascination and respect for different cultures and the world around them. They will be able to apply their geographical knowledge and skills in a range of contexts, including in school and in their lives beyond the classroom.
